Tess - PFC³ Nutrition Coaching at Soma

For over thirty-five years, I've dedicated my life to understanding the human body—how it moves, how it heals, and how it thrives. What began as a passion for movement and wellness has evolved into a comprehensive practice that weaves together personal training, massage therapy, yoga, and nutrition coaching. Over the last ten to fifteen years, I've focused intensively on nutrition coaching, not as an isolated discipline, but as an integral thread in the larger tapestry of whole-body wellness.

My journey in this industry has taught me one fundamental truth: sustainable transformation doesn't come from restriction, deprivation, or punishing yourself into change. It comes from compassion, consistency, and building habits that honor who you are and support who you're becoming.

The Problem with Quick Fixes

These approaches might deliver short-term results, but they rarely, if ever, create lasting change. Why? Because they're built on a foundation of restriction rather than sustainability. They treat nutrition as a separate entity, disconnected from sleep, stress, movement, and emotional well-being. They ask you to conform to a system rather than creating a system that conforms to your life.

Most importantly, they reinforce a cycle of failure and self-judgment. When you inevitably can't maintain an unsustainable program, you don't blame the program—you blame yourself. You feel like you've failed. You beat yourself up. You feel disconnected from your body rather than empowered within it.

I've seen this pattern repeat itself countless times, and I refuse to perpetuate it.

A Different Approach

My philosophy is rooted in something radically different: building sustainable lifestyle changes through small, manageable habits that stack over time. Instead of overhauling your entire life overnight, we focus on incremental shifts that feel achievable, that build confidence, and that create genuine, lasting transformation.

This isn't about perfection. It's about progress. It's about learning to work with your body, not against it.

What makes my approach unique is that it's informed by my multi-dimensional background. As a massage therapist, I understand the physical manifestations of stress and tension in the body. As a yoga instructor, I recognize the profound connection between breath, movement, and nervous system regulation. As a personal trainer, I see how strength, mobility, and movement patterns influence overall health. And as a nutrition coach, I understand how food fuels all of these systems.

When I work with clients, I'm not just looking at what's on their plate. I'm observing how they move through space. I'm noticing where they hold tension. I'm listening to how they talk about their relationship with their body. I'm considering their sleep quality, their stress levels, their emotional patterns, and their lifestyle demands.

This holistic perspective allows me to create coaching programs that address the full ecosystem of your life, not just your macronutrient ratios.

The PFC³ Framework

My nutrition coaching program centers around the PFC³ framework—a sustainable, science-based approach that emphasizes balanced nutrition incorporating all macronutrient groups. Unlike programs that demonize carbs or fats, PFC³ recognizes that your body needs protein, fat, and carbohydrates to function optimally.

But beyond the nutritional science, PFC³ is about creating a framework that's flexible enough to adapt to your life. We build habits in small chunks—manageable changes that don't require you to upend your entire routine.

Maybe we start with adding protein to breakfast. Then we focus on improving sleep hygiene. Then we work on pre-planning one meal per day. Each habit builds on the last, creating a foundation of sustainable practices that become second nature over time.

This approach honors the reality that you're not just a collection of nutritional needs—you're a whole person with a job, relationships, responsibilities, stressors, and a life that doesn't pause while you "get healthy." My role is to help you integrate healthy habits into the life you're actually living, not to demand you reorganize your life around a rigid nutrition plan.

Beyond the Scale

One of the most important shifts I help clients make is redefining what success looks like. For too long, the fitness industry has reduced human worth to numbers on a scale or measurements on a tape. But health—real health—is so much more than that.

Success is sleeping better. It's having consistent energy throughout the day. It's feeling strong in your body. It's moving without pain. It's feeling present and engaged rather than foggy and depleted. It's developing a peaceful relationship with food rather than one governed by guilt and restriction.

It's feeling good about who you are, exactly as you are, while working toward being the best version of yourself.

This philosophy aligns perfectly with Soma's vision: sculpt your body, rewire your energy, live in your wild form. It's not about forcing your body into someone else's ideal. It's about unlocking your body's inherent potential, cultivating energy that sustains you, and inhabiting your most authentic, powerful self.

A Practice of Compassion

Perhaps the most radical element of my coaching approach is this: I don't want you to beat yourself up. Ever. The voice that tells you you're not doing enough, that you've failed, that you should be further along—that voice doesn't serve you.

My job is to help you replace that critical internal narrative with one of compassion, curiosity, and empowerment.

When you miss a workout or eat in a way that doesn't align with your goals, we don't spiral into shame. We get curious. What was happening that day? What need were you trying to meet? What can we learn? How can we adjust moving forward?

This compassionate approach isn't just nicer—it's more effective. Research consistently shows that self-compassion, rather than self-criticism, is associated with greater motivation, resilience, and long-term behavior change.

Your Journey Starts Here

Whether you're coming to me burned out from years of restrictive dieting, frustrated by programs that didn't stick, or simply ready to invest in a more sustainable approach to health, I'm here to guide you.

My thirty-five years in this industry have taught me that transformation isn't about dramatic overhauls—it's about consistent, compassionate action over time. It's about building a life that supports your health rather than sacrificing your life in pursuit of health.

At Soma, we're creating a space where you can hone your body, unlock your energy, and step fully into your wild form—the authentic, powerful version of yourself that's been waiting to emerge.

I'm honored to be part of that journey with you.
